Homes featuring modern farmhouse interiors are still all the rage. According to Zillow’s 2020 report on home features that sell, “Design elements associated with the 'modern farmhouse' style fetch the biggest price premiums." Based on Zillow's analysis of data from 2018 and 2019, homes listed as "modern farmhouse" style are typically associated with a 10.3% sale premium!
Other reports from sources such as Wayfair & Pinterest indicate that “modern farmhouse” is no longer as trendy as it used to be. In fact, related but distinct styles such as industrial farmhouse and country chic will become increasingly prevalent in 2021. Nonetheless, there is no denying the continued popularity of the modern farmhouse - aka "rustic chic" - design style first introduced to us by home improvement shows such as HGTV’s Fixer Upper back in 2013. Google searches for “modern farmhouse” appear to be more frequent now than at any point in the past five years.
So why exactly has the modern farmhouse style captured the hearts – and wallets – of North American homeowners? According to Amanda Pendleton, Zillow Lifestyle Expert: "The modern farmhouse trend seems to be enduring because of its livability. It has a more casual, rustic aesthetic that is meant to be lived in; nothing is precious and the more wear and patina, the better, which makes it so appealing to buyers with children or pets."
One of our favorite luxury home remodels of the past few years is the Historical Mesta Park Home by Property Cousins Remodeling, LLC in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. This gorgeous two-story house includes some of our favorite features of the modern farmhouse aesthetic such as simple, clean lines; neutral colors; and rustic, earthy materials like hardwood and natural stone. Incorporating high-quality materials and a few eye-catching design elements (like a navy blue kitchen island with waterfall quartz) helps elevate the modern farmhouse style, transforming this historic residential property into a livable yet spectacular contemporary luxury home.
TileBuys is incredibly proud to have some of our favorite marble mosaic tiles featured in this home!
The incredible master bathroom includes our bestselling waterjet mosaic - Arabesque Marrakesh. Featuring an elegant Moroccan lanterns design and crafted out of sparkling White Thassos marble from Greece and lovely grey Italian Bianco Carrara marble, this tile makes the perfect understated mosaic for matching freestanding tub wall surround and shower walls.
The lovely main floor guest bath features White Thassos marble beveled subway tile and our limited edition marble and shell hexagon flower waterjet mosaic tile. Patterned mosaic tile is a striking focal point in a small bathroom and provides an excellent contrast to the traditional white subway tile frequently utilized in modern farmhouse style interior designs.
The kitchen backsplash selected for this amazing property is our Italian Bianco Carrara marble mosaic tile in 2"x8" elongated hexagons. Other "rustic chic" elements included in the kitchen design are a white apron front kitchen sink; wood ceiling beam, trim & open shelving; and wide plank white wash wood look floors.
Other features of this spacious, inviting kitchen include pendant lights over a 8’ x 5’ waterfall quartz kitchen island with wine fridge, downdraft range, microwave, and blue cabinets; coastal gray kitchen cabinets; and sleek brass hardware and spring pull-down kitchen faucet.
We think the Mesta Park OKC property is an excellent example of why elements of modern farmhouse style will continue to be a mainstay in interior designs for years to come. Modern farmhouse is simplicity at its best, elegant yet cozy, refined yet rustic – and most importantly a functional design aesthetic that lends itself well to open floor plans and is nearly universal in its appeal.
